Travel Health

Travel appointments are available to all students, faculty, and staff who are planning on traveling out of the country. Ideally, this visit should take place at least 4-6 weeks before travel. You may be scheduled 1-2 weeks out, depending on availability.

What happens at a travel appointment?

Our Travel Nurse will ask questions related to your medical care and mental health history, currently prescribed medications, and your immunization health record. They will tailor travel health advice related to your health needs, lodging arrangements, activities, and destinations throughout your travel itinerary. This is a confidential appointment.

A travel health appointment includes:

  • A discussion of recommended prophylactic medications (e.g., anti-malarial drugs, antidiarrheal, altitude sickness, etc.)
  • Specific health advice for preventing and treating other illnesses that may be encountered
  • Personal safety
  • Current travel advisories
  • Resources to signup for embassy updates regarding safety considerations in your destination country
  • Food and water safety
  • Insect precautions
  • Country-specific requirements and recommendations
  • Diseases present in travel destinations and recent outbreaks
  • Cultural awareness
  • Available medical care in the destination
  • Other destination-specific recommendations
  • Vaccine recommendations
  • Considerations regarding currency exchange, international minutes, language, passport and visa considerations
  • Resources for cost-effective travel insurance and international student discounts
